Next Up: Ecclesiastes

What is the meaning of life? How should we live? What should we aspire to and what values should inform that decision? These are the ontological questions of life - the "big" questions. For at least three millennium philosophers have debated these questions and are no closer to the answers than when they started. Despite all the technological advances we have obtained in the scientific realm the world still remains in the dark when it comes to the ethical realm. Our intellect is master of the "what" but slave to the "why".

Yet, we don't have to be in the dark. The wisest  man who ever lived, King Solomon, tackled these questions three thousand years ago. He explored the life of man in the world and his conclusions reveal great despair and great elation. Writing as "Qoheleth" he gave us "Ecclesiastes", an often overlooked but absolute jewel of a book in the Old Testament. With today's post-modern, relativistic worldview and skewed conceptions of truth itself, the lessons of Ecclesiastes are more relevant than perhaps at any previous time in Western Society.

Join us for a journey "under the sun" with Qoheleth as we study the book of Ecclesiastes. We begin Monday August 30, 2010. The Guardians is a men's group and meets every Monday at 7:00 at Gray Road Baptist Church. If you can't attend the meetings feel free to follow this blog and comment on the book as we go. We'd love to see you participate.

We finished Luke!

We finished the book of Luke at our 8-16-10 meeting. It has been a rewarding study and I think everyone got a lot out of it. Many thanks to all who contributed and participated in this journey to better understand the revelation of our Lord.

Meeting notes 8-09-10

We made it to Luke 23:43. Next meeting we will try to get to 24:35. As you read, focus on the incident on the road to Emmaus. Why did Jesus appear to the two disciples in the manner he did?

Welcome to the Guardians' Bible Study Blog

I put this blog together to assist in our Bible Study. All group members will have complete privileges to post and add anything to the blog. If everyone contributes it can be a cool thing. If nobody contributes it will die on the vine. Let's see what happens
